Anguilla is one of the most northerly of the Leeward Islands. It is a British overseas territory and predominately English speaking. Its coral and limestone structure has led to its main tourism asset - the luxurious pearl white soft sand beaches which are lapped by iridescent waters of blue and turquoise. Sailing is a very popular pastime with many regattas featuring locally made craft. Other water sports are available throughout the island including Scuba Diving and Deep Sea Fishing which are normally bookable through the island's hotels.
While fairly developed you can still find untouched areas to escape to and relax. Anguilla's capital and only town is The Valley, while the rest of the inhabitants live in small villages, often of only a few houses, which are scattered around the coast. The beauty of the island does not come from its low lying rocky scrub and cactus covered landscape, but from the charm exuded from its easy going relaxed inhabitants.
This is an exclusive destination of luxury hotels, villas and romantic hideaways with stunning views. However, if you are looking for more affordable places to hire, then it is possible to find smaller properties.
Anguilla has an average annual temperature of around 27 celcius with the hottest months being June to December.
There are no direct intercontinental flights. The island can be accessed by air from Puerto Rica and and other neighbouring islands or by a short ferry ride from its southern neighbour St Martin.
