These properties provide golfing holidays for serious golfers. Normally this will mean that they are not just near a golf course, but that they are either situated on a golf course or within a golf resort, or that they are within easy driving distance of 5 or more championship courses. Sometimes the owners or managers will pre-book tee times for you. The individual adverts should tell you more in detail and you should check your exact requirements with the owner or manager. If your requirements are just to be near a course for some casual golf, then you should go to our Advanced Search and check the Golf box there.

Austria sits right in the heart of Europe, landlocked by a number of other European countries. Given its position in the Alps, it is best known, from a tourism perspective at least, for its mountains, deep valleys and scenic beauty. The Austrian 'granite plateau' in the north of the country forms a secondary mountainous area, lower than the Alps. The river Danube flows from west to east across the country, its valley a delightful channel of lush verdant scenery. A large portion of the country is forested.

The official language of Austria is German, with the euro being the official currency. Given that Austria is one of the richest countries in the world, prices here are not cheap! Owing to its elevated position, temperatures are cold in the winter, warm rather than hot in the summer.

Culture is abundant in Austria, which has been home to many of the world's composers and some prominent authors. Vienna particularly is renowned for its music. Its architecture reflects Austria's status in history as one of Europe's leading nations and there is much to see here in terms of grandiose palaces, buildings, museums and galleries, particularly in Austria's historic cities such as Vienna and Salzburg.

Of course, Austria is renowned as a skiing destination. The Tyrol is perhaps the best known location, but Voralberg and Salzburg also boast numerous resorts. Glacier skiing is also available, considerably extending the ski season, often as late as June and year-round in some cases. Solden, Stubai and Hinterlux are examples. In summer, the ski resorts are transformed into a landscape of picturesque verdant alpine charm, perfect for hiking, cycling and generally relaxing in the warm summer air.

Accommodation in Austria is very much as you might expect given the nature of the country. Ski chalets are abundant in the ski resorts. They can be either catered or self catering. Some chalets are divided into a number of individual ski apartments. Guesthouses and b&bs are also common, some in the most historic of buildings. In the cities, apartments tend to be the theme, some modern and some in Austria's older grander buildings.
