The properties below should provide you with a residential riding holiday. Some of them may also provide stabling for your own horse or pony. Your accommodation will usually be located within the equestrian centre although it may be off-site. The individual adverts should tell you more in detail and you should check your exact requirements with the owner or manager. In general, these properties should not just be near a riding centre but should be providing an actual riding experience. If your requirement is just to have access to some riding at times, then please go to our Advanced Search and check the Horse Riding box there.

Although many of the visitors to this site reside in the UK, there are also many who don't and, particularly with the rapid approach of the Olympic Games, this guide is intended as a brief introduction to the highlights of the country. The official language of the country is English and the currency is the British pound. It's worth noting that pound notes are also issued in Scotland and these are not generally accepted in England although they can always be exchanged at banks. Weather in England is mild, with warm rather than hot summers and cool winters. In the south of the country, winters are milder and snow tends to fall once or twice a year. In the north, winters are colder and snow is more common. All the more reason to find yourself a cosy cottage with a roaring log fire!

London is obviously one of the major attractions for visitors to the country, with its many monuments, palaces, well respected museums, parks, black taxis (or cabs), red buses and policemen with pointed helmets. There is, however, much more to offer in the country. Other major cities include Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool (home of the Beatles). There are many popular rural areas, including the cottagey charm of the Cotswolds, to the west of the country, the thatched cottages of East Anglia, the imposing hills and mountains of the Peak District in the centre of the country, the winding waterways of the Norfolk Broads and the dramatic mountain scenery and stunning lakes of the Lake District. On the coast, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall in the south-west are very popular, the scenery here becoming more and more rugged the further south you head.

There are many self catering properties to rent in England - rustic cottages, houses and apartments, accommodation on farms and converted barns. The traditional English b&b is also very popular, both with residents and non-residents alike, offering rooms to rent usually accompanied by a full English cooked breakfast.
