The Burgundy region lies just to the south of Paris and includes the departments of Yonne, Nievre, Cote d'Or and Saone-et-Loire. It is intersected by the Burgundy canal and the main north-south French motorway. The adimistrative capital is Dijon, with its historical centre and the renowned cathedral of Saint Benigue. Other towns of historic note are Autun, Tournus and Beaune.
Of course, Burgundy is probably best known for its wines and includes the massive names of Chardonnay, Chablis, Pinot Noir, Beaune and the well marketed Beaujolais. A trip through the well kept and prosperous wine producing villages of the region is not to be missed!
There are lovely places to stay available in the wine growing areas here - gites, cottages, farmhouses, while stylish apartments provide accommodation in Burgundy's historic cities.
