The Cotes d'Armor department is the northern-most department in Brittany. Its coast lies on the English channel or Le Manche and varies from rocky drama to sandy beaches dotted with fishing ports. It is also known for the spectacular Pink Granite and Emerald coasts. The main town is St Brieuc, with its impressive cathedral and medieval centre. Dinan and Lannion also boast medieval centres with half timbered houses.
Cotes d'Armor has only borne its current name (meaning 'by the sea') since 1990, being previously known as Cotes du Nord. Breton is frequently spoken in the west whilst Gallo is common in the east.
In terms of accommodation, this is generally a land of gite complexes, farm houses and stone built cottages, but grander accommodation in country manoirs or mansions is also available and converted watermills are not unusual.
