The properties below should provide you with a residential riding holiday. Some of them may also provide stabling for your own horse or pony. Your accommodation will usually be located within the equestrian centre although it may be off-site. The individual adverts should tell you more in detail and you should check your exact requirements with the owner or manager. In general, these properties should not just be near a riding centre but should be providing an actual riding experience. If your requirement is just to have access to some riding at times, then please go to our Advanced Search and check the Horse Riding box there.

The Republic of Ireland is also known as as Eire and sometimes Southern Ireland. It shares an island with Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK. The Irish Republic is, however, a completely separate and independent country and is part of the EU. The local currency is the euro. Until recently, the Irish economy was booming, but recent financial events have brought the good times abruptly to an end, not that this in any way alters the fact that the Republic of Ireland is a great place to visit.

The western coast of Eire is dominated by the Atlantic from where most of the prevailing weather patterns originate. Hence this is a wild and rugged coast, giving rise to some spectacular scenery. Hills and mountains dominate and there are many islands close to the coast (most notably perhaps the Aran islands). The centre of the country is largely flat. To the east, separating Eire from mainland UK is the Irish sea. Generally Ireland, particularly in the West, has its fair share of wet weather, but the resulting greenery makes this a price worth paying.

There are many reasons to visit Eire, but, apart from its scenery, its vibrant cities probably rank amongst the highest. Dublin, the capital, is hugely popular as a tourist destination, with its pubs, architecture and many literary connections. Galway is known as the cultural capital of Eire and hosts many festivals. Other notable towns and cities are Killarney, Cork and Waterford amongst others.

The Republic of Ireland has 3 international airports - Dublin, Cork and Shannon and is well served by low-cost airlines. There is a good road and rail network.

In terms of traditional food, Ireland is obviously best known for Irish Stew, a slow cooked pot of meat, root vegetables and potatoes. However, Ireland is a modern and sophisticated country and it is possible to find all types of cuisine, particularly in the cities and major towns. Look for a full Irish breakfast in many hotels and b&bs.

There are abundant cottages available to let in Ireland, as well as apartments in the towns and cities and homely guesthouses across the country. Wooden chalets are becoming popular, similar to the chalets or cabins found in Scotland and often set up in small groups or complexes.
