Abruzzo is a region on the eastern side of Italy, located about half way down Italy's length. It sits below the Italian regions of Marche and Umbria, adjacent to Lazio and above Molise. It has a coastline onto the Adriatic sea.

This is a wild, mountainous region with wolves and bears still found in some areas. Less visited than some areas, tourists come here for the many beaches, the dramatic mountains (there is skiing, climbing and hiking here), the national parks, castles, medieval towns and hill-side villages. Seaside Pescara is popular for its long beach while Sulmona has a medieval centre and Atri has an impressive cathedral.

Places to rent here are typically Italian. Look out for traditional mountain cottages, village houses and farmhouses inland, while holiday homes to let on the coast will tend to be more modern villas and apartments. Ski accommodation can be found in the mountains, and converted palaces and historic buildings can offer unique and special places to rent.
