Lagos has outgrown its origins as a fishing village to become a large town with many villas and apartments encompassed in its spread. However, the town centre still retains a quaint feel, with cobbled streets and typical portuguese restaurants.
Lagos boasts a variety of beaches, with the magnificent Meia Praia to the east, a long stretch of unspoilt sand flanked by dunes and looking out onto a sparkling blue Atlantic ocean. Directly accessible from the centre are smaller beaches enclosed by golden sandstone outcrops.
Lagos Marina, to the east of the town, has grown to provide a large number of berths, surrounded by well designed apartment developments. The fishing port adjoins the marina and keeps it rooted in the local economy.
Lagos has a small number of low-key nightclubs, but this is largely a family holiday area with plenty of modern villas and apartments for direct rentals.
