The Lisboa Region sits about halfway down Portugal, hugging the Atlantic Ocean and the delta of the mighty Tagus river. Today it includes the sub-regions of Grande Lisboa and Peninsula de Setubal. Historically it also included the Oeste subregion and the Leziria do Tejo subregion is considered part of it for some purposes. For the purposes of this guide and this website, these two subregions are included here.

This a fascinatingly historic region and you could easily spend a couple of weeks here. Lisbon itself is a unique city, somehow combining a shimmering maritime grandeur with a quaint intimacy. Going north, the coastal towns of Estoril and Cascais are resplendent with the palatial and elegant holiday homes of Europe's wealthy from a bygone era. The historic country town of Sintra glitters with multiple palaces and a moorish castle. Head south and the Peninsula de Setubal is wilder, with nationl parks, pine fringed beaches and some geat golf courses.

There is no shortage of places to rent here or hotels to stay in. You will find typical villa and apartments on the coast, plus some rural guesthouses / b&bs in the countryside. It is also possible to find luxury accommodation in historic buildings.
