Rentals in other areas of Africa
South Africa is a country at the very bottom of Africa with a coastline on both the Atlantic and Indian oceans. In general it has a temperate climate although this varies considerably from being dry and semi arid in the north west to lush and subtropical along the east coast. The south west experiences wet winters and dry hot summers while further east along the south coast, in the area known as the Garden Route for its green landscape, rainfall is more evenly distributed throughout the year.
Tourists visit the country for either its beaches, its game reserves, its magnificant scenery, its wine growing region, or eco-tourism or a combination of these.
South Africa has superb beaches all around its coast line. If you are looking for warm seas, lively atmosphere and entertainment then the beaches in the east along the Indian Ocean coast, especially around Durban and Margate are best. If you are looking for spectacular scenery and a sophisticated culture then the those along the south coast and in particular around Cape Town would be a good choice. Further up the western coast from Cape Town you will find small towns and fishing villages with open air beach restaurants selling local fish delicacies.
For those going to South Africa specifically to see big game then Johannesburg is your best arrival destination with access to most of the big game parks including the famous Kruger National Park where all the big animals can be seen including lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant, giraffe, hippo, buffalo and rhino.
In the parks away from from Johannesburg the animals tend to be smaller and more specific to the environment such as the semi desert Kalahari Gemsbok NP where gemsbok, springbok, the Kalahari lion and numerous birds can be seen. For those seeking a combination, then a visit to Cape Town followed by a trip along the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth and a visit to the Addo Elephant Park where you can see elephants, zebra and rhinos could be a good choice.
Whilst it may not justify a full holiday, a visit to the Winelands, set in valleys just northeast of Cape Town, is well worthwhile for the scenery and pretty and prosperous towns with their colonial buildings, coffee shops and excellent resturants.
For the eco-tourism, a visit to Cape Floristic Region west of Cape Town with its abundance of endemic wild flowers may be of interest.
Eating out in South Africa can be relatively inexpensive with a wide variety of cuisines avaliable from milder Cape Malay cuisine of the cCpe, consisting of dishes such as curried kebabs, stews and the best known of all bobotie, a dish of curried mince covered with an egg custard, to the hotter Indian dishes of the East coast. Other international cuisines such as Chinese and Italian are widely available.
A full range of accommodation is available from 5 star hotels in the larger cities to smaller guesthouses and a good supply of private self catering villas, cottages and apartments to rent. Private and state Game Reserves often provide accommodation in game lodges or luxury tented camps, which can be exotic and unusual places to stay.
