Aragon is a completely landlocked region of northern Spain. It borders France to the north while its other borders are formed by a number of adjacent Spanish regions. Less well known than its coastal neighbours, Aragon is a lovely region that incorporates the drama of the Pyrenees, permanent glaciers, wonderfully green valleys and dry plains in the south. This difference in landscape obviously means that the climate varies considerably from hot in the summer in the south to very cold in the winter in the north. The capital of the region is Zaragoza, home to some magnificent architecture, including a Moorish castle. Aragon has a large area but a low population density, making it a relaxed region to visit.

The highest peaks of the Pyrenees are in Aragon (Aneto is the highest at 3404 metres), so skiing and climbing are very popular activities here. Aragon has 5 ski resorts - Candanchu, Astun, Formigal, Panticosa and Cerler. Other outdoor activities include white water rafting, hiking and cycling.

As for accommodation, this is a region where rental properties are village houses, rustic stone cottages, farmhouses and rural retreats. Typically, places to stay in mountainous areas of the north are ski apartments.
