Calonge is a medieval village 2km from the Mediterranean coast of Girona province. This is a low-key Spanish resort area set against the backdrop of the green Gavarres hills.
Calonge village is complemented by the coastal resort of St Antoni de Calonge, with is shallow sandy beaches and promenade along which it is possible to walk all the way round the Bay of Palamos. At the southern end of the beach, the coastal path climbs into craggy sandstone cliffs and continues all the way to Platja d'Aro. Small restaurants of all kinds can be found in Calonge and along the seafront in St Antoni de Calonge and eating outside to the sound of the gently lapping waves is a real pleasure.
Inland, the landscape rolls gently with vineyards, intersected with small paths and unmade roads.
Most of Calonge's villas sit slightly inland on hill sides with views overlooking the sea, but the beach is generally only a short drive away. Many of these also have pools. For places to stay by the seaside these are a number of generally low-rise apartment blocks.
