Rentals in other areas of Caribbean
St Kitts and Nevis is a sovereign state in the Leeward Islands comprising the larger island of St Kitts and just 3km off its southeast coast the smaller island of Nevis. Both are volcanic in origin with lush green vegetation and exotic plants.
Relatively underdeveloped, the islands are known as an exotic destination with their lush vegetation, tropical plants and unspoilt beaches of black, gold or white sand (and sometimes a mixture). Here it is still possible to find secluded near deserted beaches. The best beaches can be found in bays to the south of St Kitts and the north of Nevis. The beaches on the Atlantic side have more wind and rougher seas and are ideal for sailing and windsurfing while those on the Caribbean side are ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
To the north of St Kitts and in the centre of Nevis the land rises through tropical forests to the peaks of their volcanos. Below the forests, as the land flattens you will find disused sugar cane plantations, as until recently, both islands were very reliant on income from sugar cane production. Here you will find magnificent colonial style plantation houses, some of which are now acting as upmarket tourist accommodation.
Nightlife on the islands tends to centre around the local bars and restaurants where you can either experience an evening chatting to the locals or listening to a mixture of American and Caribbean music with live bands playing at some of the venues, especially on St Kitts which is the livelier of the two islands. Unless eating in one of the prestigious Plantation houses or in the city centre eating out is a somewhat casual affair, normally alfresco and often with a stunning views of the Caribbean. The local cuisine is based on fresh fish cooked in Caribbean spices, but other international cuisines are available in the larger cities and the more upmarket restaurants. The food is generally of good quality but is can be on the expensive side as most ingredients with the exception of fish and some fruit and vegetables have to be imported.
There is some self catering villa and apartment accommodation on both islands but mostly on Nevis which has a good supply of villas to let. Hotel accommodation tends to be in small hotels and the plantation houses, which offer a form of accommodation almost unique in the Caribbean.
