The Mediterranean region of Turkey is a strip of land between 120km and 180km deep lying between Mediterranean Sea and the Taurus Mountains, which stretch the length of the region and separate it from Central Anatolia. Encompassing the provinces of Antalya, Burdur, Isparta, Mersin, Adana, Kahramanmaras, Osmaniye and Hatay, the region is an important agricultural area growing grain, vegetables, citrus fruits and cotton. The clear skies and warm climate with temperatures reaching as high as 40c in the summer months, together with stunning scenery and golden beaches of the coast, have made it a popular tourist destination. All along the coast from Kalkan in the west through to Alanya in the east you will find an abundance of hotels and privately owned villas and apartments to rent. East of Alanya, tourism is less developed.

Apart from the obvious attractions of the coast, the region also abounds with historical sites dating back to the Roman empire and charting the history of the region through to the Ottoman empire. Inland the lakes in the provinces of Isparta and Burdur offer visitors an alternative to the coast.
