Wales is part of the United Kingdom, lying to the west of England and bordered on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea. The currency of Wales is the UK pound sterling (£) and the official languages are Welsh (or Cymraeg) and English. The climate is generally mild with winters warmed by the passing Gulf Stream, although the cost of this can be weather that is wetter than normal.

For the purposes of this site, Wales is divided into 4 regions. North Wales contains the dramatic mountains of the Snowdonia National Park and the island of Anglesey. It is also the departure point for ferries to Ireland. Powys and Brecon Beacons is best known for the Brecon Beacons National Park. The lively city of Cardiff can be found in South Wales and West Wales is best known for its dramatic coastal scenery and coastal castles such as Pembroke.

Music is a large part of Wales' cultural tradition, with many musical celebrities originating from here. Welsh male voice choirs are world renowned - look out for local concerts. Wales hosts the Welsh National Eisteddfod, generally around the first week of August, in various locations. This is a major festival of music, visual arts and general cultural activities.

There are plenty of rental properties available in Wales, with traditional stone built cottages and converted farmhouses being popular places to stay. There also some chalets, bungalows and apartments or flats to rent, some with great sea views.
