The Property
Manoir Les Gaillardoux - a joy for discriminating guests - is a part 17th and part 18th century stone manor house, built and lived in for generations by a prosperous family who farmed an extensive area of the Causses du Quercy. The Manoir, its barns, and round-house (pigeonnier) are examples of top quality stone rural architecture of the Lot region which are increasingly rare.
The Manoir includes the main house facing east, south and north and an attached wing facing north, south and west. Arranged around a large courtyard planted with flowering bushes, specimen trees and a fig tree are a number of attractive large stone outbuildings and a partly walled heated swimming pool with its own paved terrace.
Manoir Les Gaillardoux has been recently sympathetically and thoroughly restored to provide well-equipped and comfortable accommodation, whilst retaining all the traditional features and charm of a French country manor. Unlike farm houses, the Manoir has tall windows allowing plenty of light into the house. Rooms are spacious, generously furnished and are ideal for entertaining both large and intimate parties.
The Causses du Quercy are an elevated limestone plateau with extended views over a rolling hilly and wooded landscape. They enjoy a dry climate with mild spring and autumn weather and relief from extreme summer heat.
The Lot Region is an area with a rich history, a long standing gastronomic tradition and a rare authentic French atmosphere: You can meet the local farmers on market days, practice water sport in the rivers, fly at the private aerodrome of Lalbenque, experience the breathtakingly wild landscape of the Causses, savour local recipes in rural restaurants or sample top gastronomy in famous chateaux, visit medieval villages - or play “petanque” at the Manoir and enjoy a candlelight dinner on the terrace.
The city of Cahors has a medieval cathedral and is a centre for the wine growing area, with modern supermarkets and traditional cafes.
