The Property
Our huge property will offer a large group everything you need for a fabulous holiday in the stunning Suisse Normande location. We have equipped it to have a 'home from home' feel, using good quality furnishings to make you welcome. We also use this property ourselves, so we keep it as we expect to find it. It is situated next to a Chateau and an historic 7thc Priory site. The property has a large kitchen and a huge sitting room (plus a spare) offering more than enough comfortable sitting area for a large group (often not the case). There is a large cooker; dishwasher; washing machine; tumble dryer; wood burning stove; CD Radio and DVD player; well stocked library and good supply of games; maps & local guide books.
Six of the 7 bedrooms have en-suites and the children's room has its own separate bathroom suite. There is also a downstairs cloakroom. Bedroom configuration is as follows: 1x triple single room; 1x double & single family room; 2x double doubles room; 3 x double rooms. A cot and high chair are available on request.
The property owners live in a separate cottage on site. They will assist but not disturb you. The owners do not entertain in the gardens whilst guests are staying, so it is all there for your family and friends to enjoy.
Bedlinen, toilet sets, and hand towels are included, as is the cost of utilities.
Locally there are many activities available including Walking (GR36 footpath); Mountain Bike Trails (you can hire bikes from us); Roches d'Oetre famous Geographical site; kayaking & Pedalos; Chateau & Museums - most famously FALAISE the birthplace of William The Conquerer; Bayeux Tapestry; WW2 Landing Beaches; D-Day Routes; Cheese Routes; Granite Routes; Gastronomic and Bistro dining (see our website @ www.heydn.net for more detailed information).

*** The Suisse Normande is very aptly named as the area has a truly Swiss feel to it. The landscape is hilly, with fantastic views. It is perfect for all kinds of outdoors activities. Horse Riding (we have an Irish bloodstock breeder locally) Walking around the magnificent Roches d'Oetre site (just 2kms away from L'Orangerie) on the famous GR36 footpath. Kayaking at Pont d'Ouilly - a village Fleurie covered in flowers during the Summer. Dance at the Guingette (tea dance) by the banks of the Orne locally every Sunday in the Summer. Visit Bayeux and see the magnificent Cathedral and famous Tapestry. 70 minutes away is the port of Honfleur, full of art galeries and wonderful seafood restaurants - well worth the trip. If you have more time, pop to the Loire in just 3 hours or Disneyland Paris (3 hours away). Trains leave for Paris from Briouze local station. L'Orangerie makes a great base for tourists - we have lived there for 20 years and every year brings us new adventures.
Of a night, the owls hoot across the valley behind the house. During the day, you can see red squirrels, hares, and many red kites, kestrels and other birds. If you are lucky, you may spot a wild boar on the route back home during the night (we have twice). Because there is no town-light to destroy the view, when the skies are clear, you can see so many stars that you will be dizzy looking up - it is magnificent.
The area is steeped in history, from William The Conquerer (born locally) to the many historic Chateaux to visit. The landing beaches are about 45 minutes from L'Orangerie and they are fabulously sandy beaches for a day out with the family by the sea,
Local restaurants specialise in seafoods and wonderful creamy Normandy sauces. Do not leave without having sampled a 'Trou Normande' - a wonderful palette cleanser made from fabulous locally produced Calvedos (the property is on the Orne/Calvedos border, so you will not miss out).

The prices for the cooler weeks reflect that other than a £75 per cubic metre (cost price) charge for wood used - all the fuel costs (electricity; gas; oil) for heating this large property are all inclusive with no hidden extras.
If you are paying in a currency other than Sterling or Euros, our bank will charge a receiving fee, which will be added to the cost of your holiday. Likewise, if you pay by credit card via Paypal, we will incur a 4% transfer fee which will be added.
We know that when you are choosing a holiday location, it is not easy to make a selection, based on the advertisements. We can assure any guests that our house is well fitted out for all your needs, it is clean, has quality and comfortable furnishings, and will exceed your expectations. All guests always comment that it is unusual to find properties that actually look like the photos when you arrive, and also that actually, our photos do not do the property justice. We will go out of our way to ensure you have a great time and are happy to pre-organise things for you in advance of your stay.
During your stay, we can provide a 4 course meal and complimentary Kir for £17.50 per head (3 for £15), which is popular as we do all the shopping, cooking and dish it up for you. When we leave, all you have to do is unload the dishwasher the next morning. Menu options are available on request, and are agreed in advance.
Included in your stay is an optional complimentary day or evening's childminding (we promise to return them sound in body and mind).
We know we are biased, but we chose this location after 20 years of having a holiday home in the area. It is a truly impressive house, in a stunning area. We know if you visit L'Orangerie, you are sure to be sad to leave. We purchased and equipped the house, to give us a great place to entertain our friends and family, and to live the dream of running a Gite in France - we have very high expectations of ourselves, and you will see this reflected in our property and services. We do not regret a minute of leaving our City lives, and we would expect that our guests would not regret a moment of having chosen to spend their valuable time and money with us. We know how important holidays and the celebration of special occasions are. We will not disappoint.
