Notes on Facilities:
Due to the peaceful, secluded location of El Caleton, we are beyond the reach of mains electricity but do not let this worry you. Unlike other apartments in the complex, dependent on a generator for their electricity which they only have for part of the day, our 3 apartments have electricity round the clock, an important consideration especially if you're travelling with little ones. Apartment las Arenas is consequently able to offer a large fridge-freezer, a real boon to the self-caterer.
*** El Caleton is situated around 1 km north of El Cotillo in the midst of the famed lagoon beaches in the untouristy northwest of Fuerteventura. We are about a 40 minute drive from the airport or the island capital, Puerto del Rosario or 20 minutes from the island's biggest resort, Corralejo, with its water park, commercial centres and nightlife.
El Cotillo however is still a traditional fishing village with a few tourist facilities rather than an overgrown resort. There are about a dozen restaurants (mostly Canarian or Italian), many with terraces overlooking the sea and serving superb locally-caught fish, several bars and a couple of supermarkets. There are banks, a pharmacy, a French bakery and other shops for your everyday needs and internet access is readily available.
The village has some of the best beaches in the Canaries, including a vast stretch of sand on the so-called 'big wave beach' to the south, beloved of surfers, & a whole series of small, sheltered coves with brilliant white sand and clear turquoise water to the north around El Caleton. These are divided from each other and protected from the waves and open sea by lava stone reefs and thus provide safe bathing, even for little ones. Please note that naturism is very popular along this stretch of coast.
Cotillo has fast road connections to the island network, making a shopping trip to the capital or an evening in Corralejo popular excursions. The scenic central mountains, home to historic villages such as Betancuria, Pajara or Antigua with their craft centres and museums are under an hour by car. Likewise Costa Antigua and its golf courses.

Notes to the standard rental rates
As Fuerteventura is a year-round sunshine destination, we make no distinction between so-called 'high' and 'low' seasons. Nor do we seek to profiteer during popular school holiday periods. The standard rate quoted above (380 GBP per week) is for 1 or 2 guests. For each additional adult please add £50 per week; for each additional child up to the age of 13, £40 per week. Maximum occupancy is 5 people (6 only if the party includes a baby.)
Prices are inclusive of all water, electricity and gas charges, twice-weekly change of towels and weekly linen change (for stays of 2 weeks or longer).
A 25 % non-returnable deposit is payable upon confirmation of a booking made more than 8 weeks prior to the date of departure. The full balance is then due 8 weeks prior to the start of your holiday. We consequently strongly recommend that you take out comprehensive travel cancellation insurance as soon as a booking is confirmed.
Payment may be by bank transfer, by Sterling cheque within the UK or via paypal (subject to a 4% paypal fee.)
Local Restaurants
La Marisma, C/ Santo Tomas. Belongs to 2 brothers who fish each morning and serve their catch in the evening. Lacks a bit in atmosphere and there’s no terrace but it’s obviously the place for very fresh fish and the “Parrillada de Pescado” – the fish platter – is a sight to behold. The meat is also excellent.
La Casa Rustica (C/ Fuerteventura). Closed on Thurs. Perhaps not the nicest location, with a view onto a car park (maybe a windy evening when you want to sit inside?!) Friendly French owners.
El Roque de los Pescadores, C/ la Caleta, Puerto Nuevo (above the new harbour near the Toston Tower.) Nice covered terrace – a great view at sunset.
La Capitana, El Muelle de los Pescadores, Puerto Viejo (above the old harbour) Closed on Wednesdays. Lovely, sheltered terrace with a nice view over the sea. Very friendly staff and Spanish and international cuisine.
Restaurante El Mirador, El Muelle de los Pescadores, Puerto Viejo. Next to la Capitana and again with wonderful views of the old harbour from its glazed roof terrace. Friendly padron and Spanish and international cuisine.
Tapas Bar-Restauant Marealta, C/ 3. abril de 1978 (near the banks). Traditional and modern tapas. Closed on Mons.
Restaurante-Bar Playa, Puerto Viejo. Closed Thursdays. You can sit outside at tables directly on the old harbour wall. Canarian/Spanish food. The oven-roasted lamb is a speciality.
Restaurante Azzurro, C/ San Roque (250 m from El Caleton) Closed on Mondays. Italian speciality restaurant with multilingual staff and covered terrace. Pasta and steaks the speciality.
La Vaca Azul, (above the old harbour … large blue cow, the ‘vaca azul’ on the roof!) Closed on Monday.
If you want British food:-
Bar Toston next to La Capitana. An English-owned pub doing British-style bar food – scampi, steak pie, lasagne, syrup sponge and custard, etc. And full English breakfasts.
El Puerto Nuevo in the street behind the Roque de los Pescadores (C/ Mallorquin).Irish-owned restaurant - Irish stew, apple tart, cooked breakfasts, etc.
Chinese: El Asiatico, C/ Leon y Castillo.
Pizzeria: Pizzeria El Carmen and Pizza y Pasta, both in the Avda. de la Virgen del Carmen.
Beach Bar Torino, Playa de la Aduana, 250 metres south of El Caleton along the beach towards the village. Daily, 10-5 or 6. Paella and prawns in garlic are the specialities.
Café Aguayre, Puerto Nuevo two doors down from El Roque. Coffee, cakes, wraps and paninis, light meals, Mexican, smoothies and ice cream, daily 9:30am to ca 9pm
