The Property
Our 19th Century farmhouse has been renovated to a high standard having made every effort to retain many of the original features, while incorporating modern amenities. You can soak up the sun, snooze in the shade or enjoy a bottle of wine from our select collection on the terrace. Malcolm and Edward, your hosts, will endeavour to help you make the most of your stay in their home.
Dining is a relaxing experience served alfresco under the garden pergola, weather permitting. Evening meals often include organic meats from a neighbouring farm www.le-bois.biz and fresh, seasonal produce from our garden. All meals are freshly prepared and we can accommodate any special dietary needs and vegetarian meals. Breakfast is a sumptuous offering of our free-range eggs cooked to order with tomatoes along with an assortment of cereals, yoghurts, toast and a selection of homemade jams and marmalade.
Our 4-legged family members, Gobi the cat and Leo the Labrador dog, are very friendly and always eager to greet new friends! Our pet-friendly rooms are located on the ground floor for easy access. Please let us know in advance if you wish to bring your well-behaved pet, only one small clean dog per room, as a large breed dog will have to sleep in the lounge or in the owners car until we have made some kennels.
Appleton's is ideal for a weeks holiday or as a stopping point for travellers heading to the South of France and the Mediterranean. 61/2 hours from Calais and just 10 minutes from the A20, exit 17.
Why not stop off at Appleton’s if you are on your way to Carcassonne Perpignan or Toulouse just a day’s drive away from us in the Midi Pyrenees and Languedoc Roussillon regions of France, or the beaches of the Mediterranean, the wine areas of the Corbieres and Limoux, or the foothills of the Pyrenees.

***
Indre is certainly the unspoilt heart of France, with its stunning scenery and fine chateaux.
We are 30 kilometres from the capital of the region Chateauroux and 8 kilometres from the historical medieval town Argenton-sur-Creuse with its ancient houses almost sliding into the river Creuse.
Argenton-sur-Creuse has a lovely town square where you can sit and drink coffee, it has many shops for you to spend time looking in, or visit the market on Saturdays which is supported heavily by the locals as most of the meats, fruit and vegetables are organic, or visit the museum based at the archaeological dig at Argentomagus, the former Roman town.
Limoges is a wonderful city to explore, only an hours drive south and with many fine restaurants, excellent shopping facilities and a wealth of delightful galleries, museums and local outlets for the famous Limoges pottery.
Poitiers is 1.1/2 Hrs drive, a charming town which again, is well worth a visit, and famous for the fantastic cinematographically centre of Futuroscope, as is the new 'Vallee de Singes', which houses over 15 species of primates and 200 animals without cages. Futuroscope is a serious days outing and the facilities are marvellous.
La Brenne Natural Park with its thousand lakes is a vast conservation area dotted with lakes and criss-crossed with bridle paths. There are organised hikes or you can simply set out on your own with a map.
At the Maison de la Brenne, there is an interpretive centre where visitors can learn about the region, its ancient traditions of fish farming and nature conservation.
A visit to the vast lake ( Lac Chambon )at Eguzon is a must. The lake stretches for twenty-five kilometres and is the perfect place where you can learn to water-ski, sail and windsurf.
La Chatre is famous for being the home town of George Sands and Gargilesse, where she had a home, now home to an assortment of artists whose studios are open to the public.
