*** Cisternino is a well kept secret. Think of an Italian hill top town and Cisternino fits that description. Even the Italians think it special and have listed it as One of the Best Small Towns in Italy. ‘Uno dei Borghi più Belli D’Italia’ says the sign outside the town. This is certainly because of the position and the architecture, the food, the people, what’s on all year round and the happy combination of all these. 
Cisternino is just a five minute drive away from the trulli, with its beautiful whitewashed old town and it's local market. 
n summertime it's also a good idea to visit it in the evening, as all the shops in the old town are open, all the local people are around and you can sit in the local ""piazza"" and listen to music. 
 
Ostuni is the White City. The view of it from the coast road to Brindisi is memorable, the typical southern Italian hill top town. The view from Ostuni to the Adriatic Sea is one you really mustn’t miss. Go to the old town centre and walk up the steep hill to the Cathedral, turn left and then right and you will come out onto a sort of balcony looking over the town and olive groves and you can see the sea too. There are many shops on this walk selling knick knacks as well as quality local products such as pottery items and stone carved objects..not easy for airtravellers but some are small..so a late afternoon or early evening walk is pleasurable. There are many restaurants and snack bars. 
 
Alberobello. I’m afraid that this is a must. There really is nowhere in the world like this trullo town. 
Be prepared to sample local brews as you walk around….no, I don’t mean tea either. Alberobello, literally ‘beautiful tree’ but now famous for its town of trullo buildings that have become a magnet for tourists with many souvenir shops. It is still a nice morning or evening out though and a pleasant walk.
