The Property
This is not a resort! This is undiscovered Andalucia with no tourism as such. Finca Lucia is not a modern villa. It is an old cortijo, lovingly restored to retain the simple charm of the old farmhouse that it used to be. There are beams in every room and a large fireplace for winter days. The pool is a wonderful place to relax. It is surrounded by trees, has a spacious terrace with chairs and loungers and even a hammock! Modern living has come to the kitchen with large cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwaser and washing machine. From the house you can walk or cycle for miles, and will probably only meet a shepherd.
There is a barbecue and attractive patio outside the house - perfect for outdoor eating or sitting back with a glass of wine.
Visitors find it quite a shock when they visit the exquisite Alhambra Palace in the bustling city of Granada and meet the crowds! However, there is lots to discover here! Grand Canyon like red cliffs soar above azure blue Lake Negratin where the chances are that you will be the only people kayaking on its 25 kilometre length. Bold drivers can go to the top of Jabalcon, the mountain that dominates the area and be rewarded with fantastic views. For shoppers, nearby Baza offers a wealth of independent shops, with good bars, restaurants and supermarkets.
A drink at the bar in the park in our nearest village is a must, as is a visit to the Cuevas Al Jatib, a Moorish cave restaurant and hamman. A walk home in the moonlight is magical.
The house has been lovingly restored to maintain the character of an old cortijo, while adding all mod cons! The price is inclusive of gas and electricity and everything is provided except swimming towels. There is lots of room for 2 families - no problem with the children missing their friends! - or for an extended family.
We ask guests not to smoke in the house.

All rooms are spacious with beams and character

The pool is large and secluded

One of the twin bedrooms

The wood is full of birds - nightingales, golden oriole etc

*** Finca Lucia is situated in peaceful farmland and olive groves, surrounded by mountains about 5 miles from the historic town of Baza. A little nearer is the village of Caniles, which has a pretty park with a bar to enjoy a cool drink and tapas (still given free with every drink). It is near the unspoiled and almost unvisited natural park of Sierra de Baza, where eagles and vultures soar. This is 'the real Spain' with very little tourism, but lots to explore - like the archaeological sites at Gorafe and the 20 kilometre long Lake Negratin, whose waters are usually a fantastic azure blue. The finca is 800 meters above sea level and has a very pleasant, dry climate with low humidity. Granada, with the magnificent Alhambra, always receives rave reviews!
Baza is a very ancient town: 2,500 years ago it was an Iberian settlement and since then Romans, Moors and Christians have all left their mark. There are some fascinating old buildings, both in Baza itself and nearby towns like Orce, Guadix and Calahora.
There are mountain bikes available to hire. You can cycle for miles straight out of the grounds without touching a tarmac road. If you prefer a gentle route then the rolling farmland is ideal. If you go quietly you may spot wild boar or see hares ""boxing"" in Spring. For the more adventurous, the Sierra de Baza beckons with a host of deserted tracks and spectacular scenery. We can provide maps (very hard to come by in Spain!) and suggested routes.
Things to do: shopping in Baza with numerous independent shops, go karting, discos (don't call them clubs - that is something quite different in Spain!), visit the fabulous Moorish cave restaurant and enjoy a dip in the hammam or a relaxing massage, horse riding, kayaking or pedallos on Lake Negratin, visit the home of the spaghetti westerns in Europe's only desert, take a trip down to the coast and explore the numerous bars and restaurants where the food is remarkably good value.
