Aunby is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the Lincolnshire countryside or visit the many attractions close by, notably Stamford, a Georgian town described by Sir Walter Scott as ‘the finest scene between London and Edinburgh’ and recently featured in ‘Pride and Prejudice’, and Lincoln Cathedral, featured in the Da Vinci Code.
Stamford is one of Britain’s finest stone built market towns, which retains much of its medieval street pattern. Stamford has featured in many historical films including George Eliot’s Middlemarch, and more recently in Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice. The town was on the old coaching route from London to Edinburgh and so boasts many fine coaching inns. The town has 11 churches, 30 pubs and 20 restaurants.
Stamford is also home to Burghley House, regarded by many as the finest Elizabethan House in England. Burghley House was built in the 16th century by William Cecil. There are lots of special events throughout the year including the internationally famous horse trials
Rockingham Castle was built on William the Conquerors orders. Famously a Royalist stronghold, the castle was appropriately the setting for the BBC TV series, 'By the Sword Divided'. Lived in for the past 450 years by the Watson family, the castle is a fascinating place to visit and holds events throughout the year
