*** Chamonix is widely regarded as the skiing and alpine capital of the world. As a destination it has a reputation for the extreme and, whilst undoubtedly true, can overshadow a wide array of sporting and leisure activities, great nightlife, and superb scenery that can be enjoyed at whichever pace suits you. Chamonix is the perfect place to come for a weekend break, a week's holiday, a season, or a lifetime, as you will never run out of things to do or tire of the views! The lively streets of Chamonix are a colourful mix of sport shops, guide offices, restaurants, bars and cafés. Every Saturday the town hosts an outdoor market brimming with local crafts and produce. On bad weather days there is a cinema, a bowling alley, an ice rink, a large sports centre with a pool, gym and indoor climbing wall, as well as numerous museums.  
 
Situated in the Haute-Savoie region of France, Chamonix is bordered by Switzerland and Italy and dominated by the incredible Aiguilles de Chamonix mountain chain which peaks at the top of Mont Blanc (4810m), the highest in Western Europe. 
 
Chalet Les Pelerins is located a genuine and pleasant stroll (10 min.)from Place Balmat, the very heart of Chamonix. The chalet is set back from Rte des Pelerins, and is in a quiet, tranquil part of town.  
 
Very near-by, you have the “Chamonix Sud” bus stop, from where the resort buses serve all the ski areas in the valley. The nearest bar (less than 5 min. walk) is the “Jeckyll” - www.thejeckyll.com – always a good après ski venue. The nearest restaurant (next door to the Jeckyll) is the excellent and highly regarded “l’Impossible” - www.restaurant-impossible.com 
 
The main bakery of Chamonix “Fournil Chamoniard” is just 3 min. walk away. It opens from 0600 in the morning to get your baguettes & croissants, but be warned, the cake selection is highly addictive!
