The Property
Self catering accommodation set in a 17th Century Watermill. The Mill was completely renovated in 2009 and has now been converted to a 4 bedroomed/2 bathroom gite. Two of the bedrooms contain double beds, the other two contain twin beds and we have two small sofa beds for very young children. The mill still retains its original mill stones which make up part of the kitchen floor. The original rafters have also been retained throughout the property. As you walk into the mill to your left down a handmade oak staircase, you will find a well equipped kitchen, with larder fridge, washing machine, a gas cooker, coffee percolator, kettle and toaster. A lounge/diner is situated on the upper level and contains a wood burning stove, a Breton oak dining table which comfortably seats 8 people, 2 sofas and a window seat which overlooks the mill stream and landscaped gardens. Sometimes late in the evening you may get to spot some of the local wildlife that regularly visit. Close by to the Mill you will find the village of Guern (approx 5 minutes drive) with it’s local bakery, 2 bars, post office and a restaurant, or in the opposite direction you will find another local village called Melrand again with a bakery, bars and restaurant. Within a 10 minute drive lies the river Blavet where you can learn canoeing or kayaking and then test out your skills on the river course, or you can simply hire a pedalo and explore the river. The river also boasts excellent carp fishing. Our stream also has brown trout and you are welcome to try your luck! Nearby is an international standard golf course (Golfe de Rimaison), and the whole Blavet Valley is noted for walking, cycling and outdoor activities. The main town of Pontivy is only 15km away and boasts excellent shopping facilities, numerous bars and restaurants a lovely river walk and a château to explore.

***
Guermeur is a rural location but within 5 minutes drive you have two villages (Guern or Melrand) both with bars, restaurants, local bakeries and a village general store. The village of St Nicolas des Eaux is just 5 minutes away, this village is located on the banks of the River Blavet perfect for a stroll along the river, canoeing or kayaking, there are also bars and restaurants here all located along the river's edge. The market town of Josselin boasts an excellent Saturday market which takes over the entire town and afterwards you can relax in one of the many restaurants with a glass of wine and an excellent lunch. The town also includes an enormous château well worth exploring. The pretty town of Rochefort-en-Terre is also well worth a day's excursion - this village wins the best floral display every year and has many historical buildings, bars, restaurants and local artisans. Or you can try the port of Vannes with it's medieval ramparts, old cobbled streets and of course bars & restaurants! The beaches of Quiberon are close by (approx 45 minutes) with lots of sandy beaches to explore, with some good surfing and many other watersports. There is also the seafront to explore with it's numerous cafes, bars and restaurants.

A Taste of France!
Although there are many restaurants in the area all within a very short driving distance from the Mill, there may be an occasion when you don't feel like driving but don't fancy cooking yourself. Having previously been restauranteurs in North Devon for 5 years and with one of us being the chef, we can create for you a Taste of France giving you the opportunity to sample local french cuisine served to you either in the Gite or weather permitting "al fresco" to enjoy the warm summer evenings. A four course meal can be prepared and served to you taken from our sample menus starting at 18 euros per person (childrens meals are also catered for obviously at a reduced price) or why not try a complete taste of france by having a wine tasting evening, sampling a selection of 4 different wines with 4 different courses to compliment the wine. You can contact us for more information on this service but a full description is provided in the welcome pack upon your arrival.
