The Property

A former farmhouse with uninterrupted views of the countryside, Le Ségala offers a comfortable base in this unspoilt area of France. Renovated in 2004, the house still retains oak beams, flagstone kitchen floor and one of the original staircases. There are four double bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen/dining room. There is a separate area for the new swimming pool overlooking the valley. The property is set in more than four acres with walnut and fruit trees.

There is a private swimming pool (7m in the round and 1.5m deep) with wonderful views over the valley. This is cleaned and maintained for you. It is alarmed and fenced and equipped with loungers, chairs, tables and parasols. The pool area is in full sunlight throughout the day. Shaded areas can be found in the surrounding walnut orchard or under the umbrellas provided. The garden is large and there is a lawn on which you might enjoy a game of boule or badminton, enjoy a barbeque or eat out under the trees - or just simply a place to relax with a book and a glass of wine.

The area is synonymous with Rocamadour, caves, the Dordogne, fortified villages, and medieval architecture and offers something for all the family.

Location Description

*** Le Ségala is a hamlet in the village of Cazillac near Martel in the northern part of the Lot, just south of the Correze. The famous Dordogne river is nearby, meandering through beautiful cliff-hung gorges where you can rent a canoe and glide gently downstream, perhaps stopping off for a picnic on the riverbank and taking a swim. Elsewhere, both short and long walks are clearly marked to take in the magnificent scenery - take your binoculars and watch the buzzards and red kite soar above you or search out the wild orchids of the Causse.
There are few large towns and a smattering of small ones and most are unspoilt by modern development. Many of these towns have wonderful markets which brim over with foie gras, strawberries, local wines, fresh produce, and the cheeses and breads for which France is so famous.
No visit to this area is complete without seeing Rocamadour, France’s second most visited site outside Paris. This medieval village has been a place of pilgrimage for more than 900 years and has a lovely abbey reached via a steep stairway which the very devout still climb on their knees. Turenne with its eleventh century chateau perched on a craggy pinnacle is just ten minutes drive from Le Ségala, Curemonte boasts three chateaux dating from the Crusades and Collonges-la-Rouge is really a red sandstone village! Autoire, Loubressac and Carennac are not to be missed as are the caves at Padirac or, further afield, at Lascaux. There is a tourist train from St Denis-les-Martel up to the town of Martel which takes in the spectacular scenery of the Dordogne valley. Or venture further afield to Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, Brive, Figeac, Sarlat, St Céré, the Célé Valley and St Cirq Lapopie – the list is endless.
There are opportunities for activities for everyone – walking, rambling, swimming, canoeing, hang-gliding, micro lighting, rock climbing, golf, riding, cycling, pottery, painting and drawing or simply sitting and relaxing in a stress-free environment.
