The Property

Unlike many modern French resorts, St. Gervais is a traditional 19th Century Alpine town that has operated as a ski resort for almost a century. This charming town with a village atmosphere is built around a baroque church and lies at the foot of Mont-Blanc itself.
Just 10 minutes drive from Megeve, 25 minutes from Chamonix and 45 minutes each from both Geneva and the Savoy capital Annecy, St. Gervais is well situated to explore the best that the Savoy Alps has to offer.
Although just a few minutes away from the internationally renowed resorts of Chamonix and Megeve, St Gervais is still predominantly used by the French and much more affordable. Yet it is part of the lift-linked 300km ski region shared with Megeve, ideally located in the centre of the Pays du Mont Blanc pass area. This covers 13 resorts including Chamonix itself and Courmayeur in Italy.
Megeve is considered one of France’s top ski resorts but the lift-system is inter-connected with St. Gervais, from where it is easy to ski down from Mont d’Arbois to Megeve itself.
St. Gervais has a supermarket and a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants a night club, a casino and two cinemas. There is an Olympic size rink that hosts international ice hockey matches and figure skating galas, where it is possible to skate at any time of the year.
St. Gervais is an excellent summer resort as well with an average July temperature of 19 degrees. Tennis courts and mini golf are available at the local club. Swim at the outdoor pool at Les Contamines or from the man-made beach at the crystal clear Lake Passy. Enjoy alpine walking at it’s best with a scenery of towering rock spires, lush green valleys and ice blue lakes and views of snow-capped mountains and mighty glaciers. Other activities include mountain biking; fresh water fishing; climbing; horse riding; white water rafting; paragliding; golfing; archery and spa treatments

Additional Information

SKI CONDITIONS
If snow conditions are unusually bad at St. Gervais/Megeve it is worth trying Flaine which is a higher resort or Les Contamines which is in a bowl.
When conditions are good it is possible to ski back to the chalet but this run is not easy or well-pisted. Beginners are better taking the cable car down.
Also you do have cross 2 roads and the snow often more sparse lower down which can take its toll on your skis.
SKI PASSES
If you want a ski pass longer than 3 days you do not need to take a photo – just your passport. If you are buying ski passes on a daily basis, to make the most of your day, send someone down early to buy them before the queues build-up. Pick up breakfast from the bakery on the way back!
OFFICE DE TOURISME
This is in the Rue du Mont Blanc in the Maison de Saint-Gervais. The Ecoles de Ski have an office there too. The opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9.00-12.00 and 14.00-18.00. Tel: 04 50 47 76 08.
BAKERS
Best-value Bakers is the Boulangerie-Patisserie on the parade of shops at Le Nerey in Rue de Mont D’Arbois just 2 minutes walk from the chalet. They also sell essentials like butter, milk and sandwiches and Pizza.
SKI HIRE
The best place is the Location de Ski on the Rue de Mont d’Arbois just opposite the telelift a couple of minutes walk straight down the hill. They also service and wax skis.
TAKE AWAYS
Best is the Pizza Mont D’Arbois also in Rue de Mont D’Arbois but they don’t deliver. Pizzas are much larger than you think and there can be a wait so best to ring first. Tel: 04 50 47 71 39
EATING OUT
For Pizza the best is Pizza L’Eterle in Avenue Mont D’Arbois near the town centre.  They also do pasta and meat dishes.
For local Savoyard Cuisine best is Le Galetta at 150 Imp Lupins behind the church. The dish of local meats such as veal, chicken, beef that you cook yourself on a small table barbeque served with bearnais type sauces, chips and salad is highly recommended. Again they get busy so book. Tel:04 50 93 16 11.
For excellent French Haut cuisine the best restaurant is Le Serac in Rue Comtesse. A menu of 3 courses is approximately 24 Euros. They also get busy so it is best to book. Tel: 04 50 93 42 57.
Le Robinson is at 789 Rte. Megeve just a couple of minutes from the chalet; Tel: 04 50 93 59 00 A good family restaurant.
You can use the bar and restaurant at the Hotel Carlina just opposite at 95 R Rosay; Tel 04 50 93 41 10  – the food is good but the atmosphere staid.
Tennis; Mini-Golf: 04 50 93 41 83 and Swimming Pool 04 50 93 42 87 all located at 798 Avenue Miage.
Ice Skating Rink is at 77 Imp Cascade just after the bridge; Tel: 04 50 93 50 02.

DIRECTIONS TO CHALET (from ferry ports)
Make for Lyon then take A43 to Chambéry, A41 to Annecy then A40 to Saint-Gervais/Le Fayet. Exit motorway when "St Gervais" is indicated (junction 21). From the exit slip road take the road to the right. You will come to a roundabout which allows you to turn right into the supermarket/petrol station complex. (The supermarket, Intermarche is an ideal supermarket in which to stock up before doing the final few miles).
Go straight over this roundabout which is shortly followed by another. Take the exit to the left, Quechua, the ski superstore is on your left hand side. Pass through "St Gervais Le Fayet". Please note "St Gervais Le Fayet" is at the foot of the mountain and is not "St Gervais" itself.
At the start of Le Fayet is a roundabout with a display of crystals in the centre, go straight on at this roundabout. A little further you will see the "Mont Blanc tramway terminus" shortly followed by the "Parc Thermal" on the right. At the next roundabout turn right following signs for "St Gervais".
This will take you up a winding mountain road towards "St Gervais", passing "L'Abbaye" and "Les Plagnes". It is about 2 miles from "St Gervais Le Fayet" to "St Gervais".
Follow the main road through the town centre. You will pass the church and Hotel de Ville. Shortly after the Peugeot Garage on the left at the top of the main high street, the road forks in two. Take the road on the right marked "Albertville", "Megeve", "Le Bettex" and "St Nicolas". The other road is marked "Les Contamines ).
Follow this road past the Patinoire Municipal (Ice Skating Complex) on the left, over the bridge, past the parade of shops including bakery, estate agents and newsagents, take next left opposite the ski lift. Follow that road to the third bend. At the third bend the road forks right to the Carlina Hotel but you take the left hand fork leading to the car park at the foot of the Les Piste Appartments. The Chalet is then opposite.
