Keswick lies in the heart of the Northern Lake District and is a bustling market town. It offers a wide range of shops to suit all tastes including outdoor equipment stores, gift and craft shops, cafes, restaurants and approximately 17 pubs, many of which serve good, wholesome food.
All of the northern Lake District National Park is close at hand and there are walks to suit all ages and abilities, from gentle strolls around Derwentwater (eg Friar's Crag), through smaller mountains such as Cat Bells (with its amazing views of Derwentwater and Keswick), to more challenging routes up Blencathra (via Sharp edge), Scafell Pike (England's highest point) and many more.
Most other parts of the Lake District are within a short drive or bus ride and Grasmere, Buttermere, Cockermouth and Windermere are all easily reached.
Cycling and Mountain Biking - there are plenty of valleys, mountain passes, mountain tracks and railway trails to cater for all levels of ability.
Boating on Derwentwater - hire rowing boats or take a trip on the motor launch.
Castlerigg Stone Circle - situated 2 miles east of Keswick, the stone circle is one of the best in the country and is in an attractive setting overlooked by Skiddaw and Blencathra.
Fitz Park - offers a childrens play area, tennis, football, cricket and mini golf.
Keswick Leisure Centre - offers swimming and a great leisure pool with water slides, wave machines, etc.
Sight seeing and Activities - lots for everyone: The Theatre by the Lake, The Cars of the Stars museum, Cumberland Pencil museum, the Rheged Centre at Penrith, The Teapottery, Derwent Bay Bears (chainsaw sculptures), Dove Cottage and Wordsworth museum at Grasmere.
