*** Le Grand Chevallon is situated between St Savinien and St Porchaire. St Savinien is situated on the Charente river one of France's most attractive rivers.
The historic towns of Saintes with its Roman Amphitheatre ,Abbaye-aux-Dames and Cathedral and St Jean d'Angely are 20 minutes drive away. Royan ,Rochefort with the famous Cordiere Royal(Rope factory) and the Hermoine boatyard where they are building a replica of the vessel that once sailed between Boston and Rochefort in the 1780's, and the Atlantic beaches are 30 minutes by car.
The old cosmopolitan town of La Rochelle steeped in nautical history, with its many restaurants and aquarium, Cognac, and the charming islands of the Ile de Re and d'Oleron are 45 minutes drive.
The vineyards of Bordeaux can be reached in 1 hour.The Chateau at Roche Courbon and its lovely gardens,and the caves at Crazannes are within walking distance. The famous oyster beds are not too far away.
Restaurants to suit all pockets and tastes are plentiful. There are numeous markets in the locality.The local countryside with virtually traffic free roads are ideal for cycling. bicycles can be hired in st Savinien.
We are 20 minutes from junctions 34 and 35 on the A10 Paris- Bordeaux Autoroute.Ideal for those wishing to break their journey from the Channel ports to all destinations south.

The Charente Maritime has approximately 2600 sunshine hours per year.This compares with about 1600 hours in Northern France.This area in the number of hours sunshine per year is second only to the Riviera.
THE GITES.
There are two stylishly decorated and renovated self catering Gites,each sleeping 2 with double bedroom/sitting area,kitchen/dining area,bathroom with shower and WC,French TV,DVD and CD/Radio player.In addition there is a sofa bed available and Wi-Fi.We can provide 2 single beds in the Cottage if required.
The Gites have their own private garden with furniture and barbeque with the use of the owners secluded walled Swimming Pool and all set in a small hamlet close to open countryside.
Each Gite has its own parking area and are situated well away from each other.
Heating is provided by electric radiators.There is a charge for electricity from mid September to the end of April.All bed linen is included in the price but guests are requested to bring their own towels.
There is a file in each Gite highlighting the location of shops ,markets andn local activities.
Changeover dates between October and the end of May are flexible and at all other times Saturday to Saturday is preferred.
BED AND BREAKFAST.
Bed And breakfast is available in the main farmhouse. There are 2 rooms available one room with an ensuite bathroom and the other with a seperate bathroom.
Each room has tea and coffee making facilities.
Guests have their own small garden area and use of the owners swimming pool.
Breakfast is either served in the Conservatory or in the garden depending on the weather.
