Kingfisher Cottage - A quiet gite for a relaxing get away
Kingfisher Cottage is situated in a working farming hamlet and was once a granary.It has been converted into a delightful gite suitable for couples or a small family with many original features including beams and exposed stonework. Outside space is provided by our orchard opposite with over 1,100 square metres to relax in or have a BBQ.

The Property
Just across the drive from the owners home in the beautiful Vendeen countryside, Kingfisher Cottage provides a fully equipped, quiet, relaxing home from home for couples or small families. Retaining some original features,(but fortunately not the exterior staircase to what was once the granary!) the spacious 60 metres of living space, plus the orchard across the lane now provides the perfect place to relax in the micro-climate that gives the Vendee the second highest number of 'sun hours' in France (second only to the Mediterranean). Gas, electricity, water and bed linen are all included and the property cleaned before arrival, so no extra charges and all you need bring are towels. An easy few hours from the channel ports but so relaxingly different.
About an hour from the Atlantic coast and several resorts including La Rochelle and only 40 minutes from the exciting Puy du Fou, but a quiet retreat with an abundance of nature and good walking and cycling country all around.

Situated near the village of Bazoges-en-Pareds, with its famous Donjon castle and popular Auberge, the area between Chantonnay (15 kms) and La Chataigneraie (12kms)provides good open country with plenty of opportunity for getting back to nature. The coast at La tranche sur Mer is the closest at about an hour and other major coastal attractions (La Rochelle, La Sables-d'Olonne and St Giles-Croix-de-Vie) are a gentle drive. The Green Venice of the Marais Poitevin is only 30 minutes away and the famous Puy du Fou with it's spectacular evening shows is about 40 minutes. The beautiful small town of Vouvant is only 15kms and Fontenay-le-Comte is about 23kms. Local shops can be found 4.5kms away for everyday needs with more major shopping available in Chantonnay or La Chataigneraie.
Cycling, walking, fishing and birdwatching are all available locally and a car is necessary to enjoy exploring the delights of the southern Vendee.

To assist guests with travel arrangements we operate a flexible start day, rather than a fixed changeover day, so stays of shorter than or longer than a week or two are possible, within reason. Days are charged pro rata to the weekly amount.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any enquiry.
An evening with a glass of wine or a quiet meal out, a walk or cycle ride or a trip to the coast to eat the lovely fresh local seafood. An oyster lunch at home for as little as 3 euros a dozen, with a glass of wine and crusty bread.... if that is you idea of a holiday, Kingfisher Cottage is the right place for you. On the other hand, Disco's, late night bars, bright lights and lots of poeople is NOT on offer here in the delightful southern Vendee (but is possibly available at other Vendeen locations!).
