The Property
LISTAROS SA and KSA SOU properties were established in the summer of 2002 from a group of old fellow students and friends that share a common passion and a common belief for Greece and Crete…and that new alternative forms of tourism are feasible in Crete and more particularly in the broad region of western Messara. Despite the negative impact of mass tourism and depopulation, Messara remains a region known for its natural beauty and cultural heritage.
A ‘fine’ example is the village Listaros with its impressive architecture and untouched natural scenery was the motive that made the founders’ to try to promote a traditional and definitely alternative way of travelling and discovering the unexplored part of Crete
The two guesthouses are located at the centre of the village and for their renovation basic construction materials-wood and stone- were used. The original plain cubic form of their architecture was maintained in order to preserve the “character” of a typical cottage of the broader region and of the village. At the same time, a lot of attention was paid so as to equip our guesthouses with all comforts that meet the high standards of a modern accommodation

In an island full of climatologically and environmental diversities, the area of the Messara has a unique character and a lot of diversities to offer itself. It is the largest plain of Crete that extends to the central and southern region of Heraklion. It is surrounded from the north by mount Idi (Psiloritis), from east by mount Dicti and from south by mount Asterousia that meet with the Libyan Sea. While the land of the Messara is one of the most fertile on the island, the landscape changes dramatically as the traveller reaches mount Asterousia. Monkshood blossomed here from the 7th till the 15th century, something that can be easily detected by the number of monasteries and sketes found in the near gorges and canyons. Some of the finest examples are the monasteries of Odigitrias, Koudouma and Apezanon, the sketes of Saint Nikita, Marsalo and Agiofarago gorge. At the edge of the western point of mount Asterousia lies Listaros Village, the last passage to the mountain and the south coast. Records reveal that the village exists since 1577
