The Property
"Au Chateau" is a beautiful manor house in the tiny hamlet of Luby Betmont, which consists of a church, a few other houses and several farm buildings. It sits on a little hill above the village and is, therefore, completely secluded. The house enjoys stunning, panoramic views of the Pyrenees. It is the ideal getaway for families or groups of friends looking for the perfect relaxing break.
Au Chateau is situated on the site of a mediaeval motte and baillie providing commanding views of the surrounding countryside and the snow capped Pyrenees beyond. There’s a little terrace, with a teak table and chairs, just below the baillie, which is the ideal spot for a relaxed breakfast, or a prolonged evening with the immense gas barbeque feeding the starving hordes.
The house is surrounded by 4.5 acres of mature gardens, which are attended by a local gardener who also maintains the beautiful pool area , where you’ll find loungers and another table and chairs protected by a huge parasol.
The house offers extensive accommodation for two families or a group of friends holidaying together. There are two large comfortably furnished drawing rooms, and a dining room, all with huge fireplaces, five bedrooms (one with bunk beds, one with twin beds), a TV/games room, with a computer and broadband access to the Internet, a well-equipped kitchen and three baths with two more loos downstairs. The master bedroom is en-suite.
The kitchen has a double electric oven with a gas hob. There is a large American style fridge/freezer, and a dishwasher, and, in the utility room, a washing machine and tumble drier. A washing line is situated at the back of the house and all crockery, cutlery and electrical equipment are provided, including a toaster, a Braun mixer and cafetieres. All towels (including pool towels) and bed-linen are included
There are radiators in each room. Logs for the fireplaces are supplied

***
The south west of France is famous for its gourmet food, full-bodied wines and Armagnac. Foie gras is the local delicacy and you will see numerous farms advertising it at the roadside. Local menus usually include foie gras and the price you pay for this delicacy will vary considerably.
The house is half an hour from Lourdes, formerly a small market town on the 11 February, 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous met, along the Gave, the “Lady” that made the town a place of modern miracles and pilgrimage
The whole region is ideal for walkers; many of the towns and villages have listed churches and museums and large country parks. Tourist offices are well distributed throughout the area.
Gascony, famous for ""d'Artagnan"" one of the three musketeers, has a lot to offer the tourist who enjoys the outdoors and is particularly popular with enthusiasts for fishing, horse riding, mountain biking and golfing. There are many festivals all year in the region; not least the Country & Western Festival at Mirande, in the heart of Gascony, only a half hour drive from Luby Betmont and the world famous Marciac Jazz Festival. Visit the local tourist information office for more details.
On a wet day, pick a spa and chill out in warm water.
Ski-ing is an option during the winter months since the house is around a one hour’s drive from the slopes.
