*** Porthleven is a picturesque fishing harbour with basic shops, a supermarket, a range of restaurants and cafes and three pubs. There are also a small number of art and craft shops. various functions occur by the harbourside throughout the year. There are regattas, gig racing, lifeboat days and the Porthleven Town Band plays outside the Harbour Inn. The Penrose Estate borders Porthleven and a walk around Loo Pool is recommended. Loo Pool is the largest freshwater lake in Cornwall and was formed when the spit of sand known as Loo Bar cut off the river from the sea. Loo Pool is 1/4 to 1/2 mile from Westward. Sea fishing trips can be easily arranged at the harbour, cycling on the relatively quiet country lanes is enjoyable, and a host of other activities are possible. There is a large range of golf courses to choose from.
The attractive, unspoilt fishing village of Porthleven in South West Cornwall is situated in the middle of Mounts Bay, to the West of the Lizard Peninsula and to the East of Land's End. The typical Cornish harbour forms the centre of the village, surrounded by fishermans houses, shops, pubs and restaurants. There is plenty to do in the immediate area, with two miles of beach and several nearby golf courses, parks and spor'ts centres. There are a wealth of coastal footpaths to explore in the surrounding area, and within easy reach are many of Cornwall's most picturesque towns and villages.
