Moulin de Pierretoune is a beautiful watermill built in 1550. The mill has 4 bedrooms sleeping up to 8, a large living/dining room with open fireplace, well-equipped kitchen, utility room and 2 WCs and bathroom. Large shaded terrace and a long island garden. Wonderfully peaceful location, just outside La Bastide Clairence, voted one of the most beautiful villages in France, yet only 30 minutes from the seaside resort of Biarritz.

The Property
Moulin de Pierretoune is a beautiful Basque watermill situated in the heart of the Basque countryside. There is absolutely no traffic noise whatsoever. The mill is located in a small hamlet just outside the village of La Bastide Clairence in the valley on the river Arberoue. The property is surrounded by farmer's fields and the horses come down to the river to drink daily. The wildlife at the mill is very impressive with kingfishers, woodpeckers, various types of butterflies, birds of prey, owls, lizards, etc. The terrace is the ideal spot for relaxing in rattan armchairs or steamer chairs, or on the riverbanks of the island with is also perfect for picnics. In spite of this peaceful location, the mill is only a short drive from the village and all local amenities, just 25 minutes' drive from Biarritz airport (and 45 minutes' drive from Pau airport) and exactly 30 minutes from Biarritz. St. Jean de Luz, St. Jean Pied de Port, Pau, Bayonne, Salies de Bearn are all just a short drive away as are Bilbao, San Sebastian and Pamplona just across the Spanish border. Also nearby are the picture postcard Basque villages of Sare, Cambo les Bains, Espelette, etc.

All bedrooms have views over the surrounding countryside and the river. The largest bedroom has a fireplace and large fitted wardrobes. All bedrooms have wooden floorboards and plenty of storage space.

There is a bathroom on the 1st floor of the mill containing a newly fitted wash basin with stone tiles and large mirror, a bath with large contemporary shower above. The WC on the 1st floor is separate. There is a 2nd WC on the ground floor and we will shortly be fitting a shower cubicle on the ground floor also.

Swimming is possible in the river as is trout fishing. The terrace has a large wooden table and benches for al fresco dining. There are 4 wooden steamer chairs, a plastic/rattan effect sofa, 2 armchairs and low coffee table. There is also a swing seat on the terrace. We also have boogie boards for surfing, childrens toys and books, skittles, guidebooks and maps and novels.

The Basque country is also world famous for its excellent surf conditions and world competitions are regularly held at Biarritz, Mundaka, Hossegor, St. Jean de Luz, etc. There are also many excellent golf courses in the region, including the oldest in continental Europe at Pau.
