The Property
Casa Limone, completed in 2007, has 3 spacious, air-conditioned bedrooms, 2 shower-rooms, a kitchen/living room, a huge terrace on three sides for dining and relaxing, and a secure garage. It is one minute's walk to the beaches and crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea and 10 minutes' level walk to Torre San Giovanni’s excellent range of restaurants, bars and shops.
This area of Puglia is called Salento. The nearest sizeable town is Ugento, while the landmark city is historic Gallipoli, 16kms north along the coast. The nearest major city is the regional capital Lecce, one of the most beautiful in Italy, while the civil airport at Brindisi is about an hour's drive away. Ryanair operate several low-cost flights per week to Brindisi (and Bari) from London Stansted.
Italians from further north descend on the region in huge numbers during the annual vacation months of July and August, but outside of this period it is quieter and has much to entice the British holidaymaker.
It offers a wide range of outdoor activities and relaxation - walking, cycling and horse riding, or sunbathing on the stunning beaches - as well as plenty of historic sights and a wide range of entertainment opportunities for all ages.
The Greek influence remains obvious to this day, rather as it does in Sicily. Lecce, the 'Florence of the South', bursts with Baroque; Avetrana has a medieval castle; and the historic port of Gallipoli has a spectacular harbour and a fascinating maze of narrow streets.
The local food and wine are superb and inexpensive and almost invariably organic. Everything is dictated by the seasons. Restaurants obtain their produce locally. The pace of life is slow, the food is delicious and the people are friendly and welcoming.
For an authentic taste of Italy that is far removed from the usual tourist destinations further north, Puglia offers something charming and utterly different - an unforgettable and unique experience.

The apartment is arranged over 2 floors. A large double-bedroom and twin bedroom, plus shower-room, are on the basement floor, while on the ground floor are another double bedroom, another shower-room, plus the lounge-diner and kitchen areas, as well as the entrance to the apartment. As a result, Casa Limone lends itself perfectly to being used by two separate families as it is easy to remain self-contained.
*** Places of interest in the Salento region of Puglia include Lecce, the regional capital; Gallipoli, and Otranto. Taranto, about 65 miles away, has a renowned archaeological museum.
Recreation in Torre San Giovanni includes riding, sailing, fishing and cycle hire. Boats can also be hired from the harbour for day-long use. Not all these facilities are fully available until the main holiday season starts in mid-June. Walking is undemanding as the area is flat and there are good opportunities for studying the abundant flora and birdlife.
The village is well served with bars, restaurants and ice-cream parlours. The ice-creams are unforgettable! There are supermarkets, bank cash machines, hairdressers, hardware stores, petrol stations, etc.
Nearby Ugento has a wide variety of shops, restaurants, banks, etc, and is worth exploring to find its historic centre.
The beaches closest to Casa Limone (just at the end of the road) are a mixture of rocks, some excellent rock pools and sand. Those beyond the harbour and the Torre (tower) are sandy and stretch as far as the eye can see. The area's finest beaches are to be found along the coastal route towards Gallipoli, the Baia Verde.
Much of the village centre is closed to traffic from 9pm each summer night as the streets fill with people. All year round the evening passegiata draws people to the seafront, but on Sunday evenings in particular there is the extraordinary sight of thousands of people from miles around converging on the seafront for their evening stroll. There are stalls selling items ranging from clothing and nuts to sunglasses and chainsaws, and the atmosphere is delightfully happy and friendly.
The restaurants – especially those beyond the obviously tourist ones along the seafront - generally provide top-quality, local, organic food at very modest prices. Seafood is a speciality. Within two minutes’ walk of the apartment is a small family-run restaurant/pizzeria called ‘U Salentinu’.

Payment: One-third of the rental should be paid at the time of confirming the booking. This is not refundable in the event of cancellation.
Deposit: We also respectfully ask for a returnable deposit of €250 in advance to cover any breakages or damage. The balance will be refunded within two weeks of the end of your stay.
Occupants: The maximum number of occupants is six. The apartment has 2 bathrooms, 2 double bedrooms and a third bedroom with 2 single beds. In addition, there is a large sofa-bed in the main bedroom.
Discounts: Guests booking for a second week will be entitled to a discount of 10% on the second week’s rental.
Not included: A mid-stay change of linen and cleaning of bathrooms is compulsory for guests staying for two weeks or more. This will be charged at €25 per adult.
Rental periods: Normal rental periods run from Saturday to Saturday. However, we are happy to be flexible whenever possible so feel free to contact us with any specific requests.
