The Property
Lavender cottage is located at Oreshak, a small village near Varna with a permanent population of about 250 people. Due to its proximity to Varna and its charming natural setting Orehsak has become a popular residential area combining old-fashioned stone buildings with some new but mostly traditional-style developments.
Lavender cottage is a relatively new property, built in 2005 and opened for visitors in the summer of 2006.
For those interested in history, the region of Varna provides a wide choice of places to visit, such as Euxinograd (10 min drive), the small fishing town of Balchik (15 min drive); the old fort at cape Kaliakra (45 min); and The Aladja Rock Monastery (25 min), near the Golden Sands Resort, to name a few. In Varna itself the Archaeological Museum, the Roman Bath ruins, the Ethnographic and the Maritime Museums are some of the places worth visiting. A stroll along the 5 mile-long Sea Gardens stretching as a green band along the Bay of Varna, gives a true air of tranquillity amidst the busy metropolis. Children might be interested in the dolphin shows, held daily at the Dolphinarium there.
Varna lies 458 km east of the Bulgarian capital Sofia and 485 km north of Istanbul (225 km to the Turkish border). It is a central point for transport by sea, road, railway and air.

*** Oreshak is situated 18 km northwest of Varna, on the way to Albena and Balchik.
Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria with a population of approx. 350,000 people. In tourist terms Varna is the main centre on the Northern Bulgarian Black sea coast with traditionally large resorts such as St. Constantine & Helena (first developed in 1948), Golden Sands (1956) and Albena (1970's), all recently revamped and expanding each year; and in addition plenty of comparatively smaller tourist complexes, like Sunny Day, Riviera Holiday Club, etc.

Varna International Airport is used by charter flight companies for holiday-makers during the summer season covering various destinations in UK, Germany and France, while direct schedule flights from Varna operate all the year round to London, Budapest, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Odessa and other destinations.
There are two small grocery shops in Oreshak, which can be found in the village centre, but with Varna only 18 km away, one might opt for a wider choice and take a ride to any of the larger supermarkets and discount stores (Metro, Piccadilly, Technopolis), or open-air markets for fresh fruit and vegetables (the largest being Chataldja and the Kolkhoz bazaar). Two new Shopping Malls are opening in the beginning of 2008.
For the golf lovers the Black Sea Rama Golf Club, designed by the legendary Gary Player is expected to be completed by the summer of 2008.
