Castagni d'Oro is a charming old hilltop village house, built around 1650-70 in true Tuscan style, with thick stone walls, chestnut beams, cotto tiled floors and stone stairs, etc. Traditional green shutters allow the cooling mountain breezes through the house while keeping the hot summer sun out. The house has never been ruined, rebuilt or restored, just modernised when necessary, so much of the building is original.  
Recent work, though, has added en-suite shower rooms to the guestrooms and a new large fireplace downstairs that is lit all winter, making it warm and cosy for skiing breaks. Guests can also use the sitting room if they want. 
 
The guestrooms are roomy with high beamed ceilings, double/twin beds with quality linen and have great views of mountains and the village. LCD tvs receive true British television and radio and there are coffee and tea making facilities, biscuits and water provided free in the rooms. 
 
The new en-suite bathrooms have showers, luxury towels and complimentary toiletries. 
 
There is a sunny terrace with table and chairs that is great for a glass of something cooling or even an al fresco meal. The garden is flat and level and perfect for sunbathing, with shade from trees and a gazebo, and has fantastic views down into the valley below and across at the rocky Apennine mountains.  
 
Parking is safe and private in our own driveway and there is a locked garage for storage of motorbikes, bikes and ski gear. 
 
We can offer discounts for the Thermal spa in Bagni di Lucca for all treatments when booked through us, including steam, mud, hot stones and massage. 
 
There is a bar in the village which also sells Tuscan type food, but if you do not want to eat out every night, we can provide simple 3 course evening meals with free wine (no drinks licence) and coffee for only 15 euros each. Also packed lunches for 3.50 euros
